Corrective EQ
Finding a resonance
A resonance is a frequency that rings too long or too loud.
A resonance shows up as a note that "whistles" or "booms" above the rest: a snare that rings too much, a room that reinforces a low frequency, a voice that turns harsh on certain notes.
The classic method: find the region, then refine. In the studio you sweep a narrow boosted bell to make it stand out, then cut it. The game trains you to spot it directly by ear.
A resonance is corrected with a narrow bell and a measured cut: no more than needed.
Listen for
- A precise pitch that sticks out, almost a note.
- A tail that rings longer than the rest.
The classic mistake
Correcting too wide and too deep: the sound loses its body. A resonance is narrow.
