Corrective EQ
Masking
Two sounds in the same area hide each other.
When two sounds share the same frequencies, the louder masks the quieter: it becomes blurred or disappears. This is the most common cause of a "muddy" mix.
The fix is not to turn the masked sound up but to make room for it: cut the other one in the shared area, or separate the sounds in space or time.
The game asks which correction frees the sound: think in areas, not in volume.
Listen for
- The sound gaining clarity without getting louder.
- The area where the two sounds overlap.
The classic mistake
Turning the masked sound up: the problem remains, and the mix gets louder and more confused.
